Aimee R asked:

We are looking for a fun, romantic destination to take our honeymoon. We want to spend around $3k. Any suggestions?

    Gatlinburg, TN.

    It’s gorgeous.

In the summertime, New Buffalo, Michigan is gorgeous! There are beautiful, quaint and romatic B&Bs, gorgeous white sand beaches, great restaurants, vineyards, even a really awesome casino. It’s also fairly inexpensive. You can fly into O’Hare or Midway in Chicago and rent a car (it’s only about 90 minutes away), or you can fly into South Bend Regional (but you’ll probably have to take one of those dinky little planes from Indianapolis or Chicago to get there. Ugh.) and it’s only about 30 minutes. With $3000 you can really go all out around here. lol

Where do you live? Generally the closer to home the less expensive the travel costs will be.
I would try the airline or travel agent websites as often they have inexpensive package deals with flights and accommodation to various locations. The availability depends a lot on when you want to go though. For example, they’re often not valid during holiday or peak periods.
Cruises can also be inexpensive if you’re into that sort of thing.

A cruise. You can go on a 7 day cruise and get a balcony suite for about $2000. Then you can use the other $1000 for souvenirs. The $2000 on the cruise includes all your food, your on board entertainment, and drinks (not soda or alcohol). You really can get more for your buck on a cruise!

Florida!!! I paid like $250 (a little over $500 for two) for round trip plane tickets in August. I’m not sure if it’s gone up or down. But, you could stay at a hotel somewhere on the beach and have a great time. It’s nice and warm this time of year and not crowded at all. If you stay near Orlando, you visit Disney, Sea-world or Universal for a day trip.

There is tons to do in Florida and it’s really not that expensive. Perhaps you can rent a condo, cottage or house on the beach somewhere. You can prepare your own food that way and save on eating out.

Looking back, I wish I would have just taken a nice vacation in the US someplace like New York City or another cool place that doesn’t require too much plane time or money. I went to a Sandals in St. Lucia and spent way too much. Would have had more fun going to Rome or another cool place that I’ve always wanted to go.

We are going to Orlando, Florida. You can use this website and they create a package for you that is very inexpensive. Good Luck!

If you can get cheap flights then I suggest Thailand.
Once you are there everything is ridiculously cheap, I came back with left over money!
Accommodation is about $60 per room per night for 4 star and usually includes breakfast. A steak meal for dinner costs about $6.

It really depends on the time of year & where you are located. I live in WA state, and we are taking a “mini-honeymoon” after our Nov. 15th wedding to the quaint german inspired town of Leavenworth in the Eastern side of the state. It’s within driving distance, affordable, romantic, and since neither of us has travelled there before, we think it will be perfect! Especially, since after recouping our losses after all the wedding expenses, we plan to go to Europe in the spring for our REAL honeymoon :) Kinda keeps with the theme huh? Good luck to you!
